说到“chill”，很多同学可能只了解它有“寒冷”的意思，但这个词在口语中出现的频率相当高，且地道用法很多，来学习一下：
1. He/She/Someone is chill. 表示某人很酷（cool）
2. 表示没什么事，放松，相当于relax.
英文释义：to spend time relaxing
We went home and chilled in front of the TV.
我们回家坐在电视机前放松。
I'm just chilling.
我放松一下。
3. 表示冷静，镇静，同义短语：calm down.
释义：to relax and stop feeling angry or nervous about sth
Sit down and chill out!
坐下来冷静一下！
4. 和朋友一起打发时间，闲逛，等于hang out.
let's chill.
我们去玩吧。
They sometimes meet up to chill out and watch a movie.
他们有时聚在一起，看场电影放松一下。
netflix and chill
外国社交平台流行语，最初的意思是“待在家里看看电视，放松放松”，现在多跟性暗示挂钩，性爱的一种委婉说法。
hang out不一定是“出去玩”？
英文释义：If you hang out in a particular place or area, you go and stay there for no particular reason, or spend a lot of time there.
很多同学看到“hang out”，都会翻译成“出去玩”，但其实这个表达本身的意思是在某个地方逗留，消遣，或者花上很多时间。不一定非得出去，你也可以说“hang out at home”
如果一定要表示出去，可以说“go out”。但“go out”也没有这么简单，除了“出去”的意思，还有多层含义，了解一下：
①（尤指为了去娱乐）外出，出门参加社交活动
英文释义：to leave a room or building, especially in order to do something for entertainment
Do you want to go out for a drink after work?
你下了班想不想到外面喝一杯？
It's terribly smoky in here - I'm just going out for a breath of fresh air.

②（与某人）谈恋爱（通常有性关系）
英文释义：to have a romantic and usually sexual relationship with someone
这种说法很容易和“出去”混淆，如果别人说的是“谈恋爱”，但你理解成了“出去”，就有点尴尬了。比如下面这个例句，想表达的是他离婚后没有再谈恋爱，如果理解成离婚后再没出去过，就有些离谱了。所以理解的时候一定要注意语境。
He hasn't gone out with anyone since he got divorced two years ago.
他两年前离婚后没有和任何人谈过恋爱。
How long have you been going out with him?
你跟他恋爱有多长时间了？
They'd been going out (together/with each other) for almost five years before he moved in with her.

③退潮，落潮
英文释义：If the tide goes out, it moves back and covers less of the beach.

④熄灭
英文释义：If a light or something that is burning goes out, it stops producing light or heat.

英文释义：to lose when you are playing in a sports competition, so that you must stop playing in the competition
