a. take over 表“接管”，之后可接宾语。但本短语亦可视作不及物动词，之后不接宾语。
例如：
Paul took overthe business when his father retired.
= Paul assumed the management of the business when his father retired.
（保罗的父亲退休时，他便接管了事业。）
Fred was sick, so Frank took overfor him at the office.
= Fred was sick, so Frank assumed responsibility for him at the office.
（弗雷德生病了，所以弗兰克接替他的工作。）
b. hand over表“移交”，与 take over 互为反义短语。hand over 始终做及物动词，常用的句型为：
hand something over to sb
= hand over something to sb

Peter was reluctant to hand over his position to his successor.
