Hong Kong pop idol Aaron Kwok proved hes a bona fide actorandmainland Chinas Zhou Xun cemented her status as one oftheindustrys biggest stars as the duo won top acting honors atthe43rd Golden Horse Awards the Chinese-language equivalent oftheOscars.
Zhous movie, the musical Perhaps Love, also took homebestdirector for Hong Kongs Peter Chan, but Kwoks film, AfterThisOur Exile, the meticulously told story of a troubledfamilysbreakdown, won best picture and best supporting actorfor9-year-old Ian Gouw.
Perhaps Love also won for best cinematography and bestoriginalfilm song.
The 41-year-old Kwok made his name as one of Chinese popsFourHeavenly Kings in the 1990s, along with Jacky Cheung, AndyLau andLeon Lai.
Kwok boosted his acting credentials with a surprise best actorwinat last years Golden Horse Awards for playing a troubledpoliceofficer obsessed with his missing wife in Divergence.
He proved last years win wasnt a fluke by clinching topactinghonors again this year with a powerful performance of thedownwardspiral of a hot-tempered cook, who pimps and forces his sontosteal after losing his job, his home and his wife.
Kwok described his growth as a performer.
When you grow up, first you have to let go of yourso-calledbaggage as an idol. Once youre free of the baggage of anidol, youcan play any character in a relaxed state. You can havedifferentcreative spaces and you dont have any boundaries, hetoldreporters after his win.
Meanwhile, Chinese actress Zhou completed a clean sweep ofChinesecinemas top awards for her portrayal of a movie starcaught betweenpast and present loves in Perhaps Love.
Zhous character also won best actress honors at the HongKongFilm Awards, Hong Kongs Golden Bauhinia awards and Hong KongFilmCritics Society awards earlier this year.
After her win, she said acting like life, is a constantlearningprocess.

The best picture win for After This Our Exile also marksasuccessful comeback for director Patrick Tam, considered partofHong Kongs new wave of cinema in the 1980s.
The movie is Tams first after a 17-year break, during whichhetrained screenwriters in Malaysia and edited famed HongKongart-house director Wong Kar-wais Days of Being Wild.Thedirector didnt attend the awards ceremony.
