LONDON, Sept 17 (Reuters Life!) - The wife of BritishPrimeMinister Tony Blair only pretended to slap a cheeky teenager,butchild protection officials reported her to the police andofficersquestioned her before dismissing the incident.
Cherie Blair was being photographed with teenager MilesGandolfiat the UK Schools Games sports event in Glasgow, Scotland,when the17-year-old jokingly raised his hand behind her head tomake abunny ears gesture.
In response, Blair, a prominent human centers lawyer and motheroffour children, took it in good humor and pretended toslapGandolfi, telling him he was cheeky. Newspaper pictures thenshowedthem laughing and hugging each other.
But officials from the Child Protection in Sports UnitreportedBlair to police who then questioned promising fencerGandolfi aboutthe incident.
Following further inquiries, it has now been established thatnoincident took place, a Glasgow police spokeswoman said.
Police inquiries into the matter are now complete.
Gandolfis mother Catherine said she could not understand whyanycomplaint had been made.
It wasnt an assault of anything like that, she told the MailonSunday newspaper. It was just a bit of fun on his part -- itwasall very lighthearted.
Blair has been under intense media scrutiny, much of ithostile,since her husband became British premier in 1997.
