You Took My Heart Away

- by mltr

staring at the moon, so blue

turning all my thoughts to you

i was without hopes or dreams

trapped to die and never scream

but you, saw me through

walking on a path of fear

see your faces everywher

(see your faces everywhere)

as you melt this hottest stone

you take my hand to guide me home

and now, i'm in love

chorus

you took my heart away

when my whole world was grey

you gave me everything

and a little bit more

and when it's cold at night

and you sleep by my side

you've become the meaning of my life

faring in a world so cold

(faring in a world so cold)

you are there to warm my soul

(you are there to warm my soul)

you came to mend a broken heart

you gave my life a brand new start

and now, i'm in love

chorus

holding your hand

i won't fear tomorrow

here where we stand

we'll never be alone

chorus

you've become the meaning of my life

you've become the meaning

Feeling young again

Two elderly Wal-Mart greeters were sitting on a bench at the entry way when one turns to the other and says, "Slim, I'm 73 years old now and I'm just full of aches and pains. I know you're about my age. How do you feel?'

Slim says, "I feel just like a new-born baby."

Slim

"Really, Like a new-born baby?"

"Yep. No hair, no teeth and I think I just wet my pants."

South Korea and Japan ease off on troops to Iraq

Two of Washington's most important Asian allies are stepping away from sending soldiers to help rebuild Iraq. South Korea says it will limit its deployment to 3,000 troops, far fewer than America wants, and Japan is putting its commitment on hold.North Asia Correspondent, Mark Simkin reports.

The incident is receiving widespread coverage in Japan and that's not surprising, because many people here are worried it might soon be Japanese troops that are in the firing line.

"I'm absolutely opposed to sending troops to Iraq", Mark Simkin says, "I fought in one war when I was eighteen years old, we must maintain peace".

"It involves people's lives", this man adds. "It's okay to help by sending food and money, but not soldiers, we have a pacifist constitution".

Prime Minister, Junichiro Koizumi wants to dispatch hundreds of soldiers to help rebuild Iraq. Legislation passed earlier in the year limits their role to providing humanitarian assistance, but it would still be the first time since World War II that Japanese troops have operated in a place where fighting is continuing.

"As a member of the international society, we have a role to play," says Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda. "The reconstruction of Iraq will help stabilise the Middle East, and that will lead to peace and stability in the world."

The Japanese public isn't so sure about that. The Democratic Party of Japan campaigned against the dispatch in last weekend's national election and picked up 40 seats.

"The Government's initial decision to send the Self Defence Forces was based on the wrong information," says Naoto Kan, the party's leader. "The situation in Iraq has changed. The Government should formally announce to the people that it is cancelling the dispatch."

The Government isn't likely to do that, but it is hedging its bets. Earlier in the week, Tokyo indicated that it wanted to send the troops before the end of the year, but yesterday, just hours after the suicide bombing, its chief spokesman backed away from that plan.

"If the situation allowed our Self Defence Forces to participate, they could go at any time," Yasuo Fukuda declared. "Unfortunately, it is not such a situation."

Euro Disney loses its magic

PARIS, France -- As Mickey Mouse gets ready to mark his 75th birthday, his parent company's European operations has put a dampener on the celebrations.

France's Euro Disney reported a 56 million euro ($66 million) annual net loss Monday for the year ending September 2003, up from 33 million euros ($38 million) the year before.

The theme park operator's loss was smaller than financial analysts' forecasts of 59 million euros, according to Reuters.

But its operating profit fell to 132 million euros ($155 million) from 175 million euros ($206 million) a year ago.

The company, which is 39 percent owned by The Walt Disney Company and 17 percent by the Saudi billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed, opened a second theme park outside Paris in March last year -- to complement the original opened in 1992.

But the combined business has been hit by weak economic growth in Europe and a drop in tourism.

The second park failed to meet visitor expectations, with overall visitor numbers falling from 31.1 million a year ago to 12.4 million.

The parent company's iconic symbol Mickey Mouse celebrates his 75th birthday Tuesday.

The character made his debut in the film Steamboat Willie in 1928. The cartoon helped launch The Walt Disney Company, now a multi-billion dollar global media company.

1863 : Lincoln's Gettysburg Address

President Abraham Lincoln delivers one of the most famous speeches in American history at the dedication of the military cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Using just 272 words, Lincoln brilliantly and movingly articulated the meaning of the conflict for a war-weary public.

For some time, Lincoln had been planning to make a public statement on the significance of the war and the struggle against slavery. In early November, he received an invitation to speak at the dedication of part of the Gettysburg battlefield, which was being transformed into a cemetery for the soldiers who had died in battle there from July 1 to 3, 1863. A popular myth suggests that Lincoln hastily scribbled his speech on the back of an envelope during his trip to Gettysburg, but he had actually begun crafting his words well before the trip.
