Topic of the week: POSSESSIONS
"Every right implies a responsibility; Every opportunity, an
obligation; Every possession, a duty."
~ John D. Rockefeller
LEARNING MORE ABOUT "EVERY"
Let's look at when we use the word "every," and check out some
example sentences.
1) We use "every" before a single noun.
example #1: I see her every day. (We wouldn't say, "I see her
every days.")
example #2: see today's quote!
2) We use "every one of" before a pronoun or determiner (for
example, "the," "my," "these." etc.)
The pronoun or noun is plural.
example: His books are wonderful. I've read every one of them.
3) We can use "every one" without a noun.
example: I've read every one.
4) "Every" is used with a plural noun in expressions like "every
three days."
example: I go to Italy every six weeks.
5) "Everybody," "everyone," and "everything" are used with singular
verbs, like "every."
example: Everybody has gone home. (We wouldn't say, "Everybody
have gone home.")
