A Red Beans and Rice Review
"The beans were a bit hard (they weren't cooked well)
but the rice was light and well-cooked. The sauce for the
beans was spicy, as it should be, but it was somewhat oily.
The whole dish was not very hot when it was served and that
was disappointing."
This is an example of a food review. Food critics, people
who know food well and criticize food preparation, eat at
restaurants and try different foods. Then they write about
the taste, temperature (hot or cold) and presentation (how
it looks) of food for newspapers and magazines. They let readers
know which restaurants are good and which are not so good.
They also inform readers about which "dishes" are
the best in each restaurant. It is important, too, that they
don't let the restaurant workers know that they are critics.
Restaurant workers serve them just like every other diner
(person who eats).
In Boston, there is an online restaurant review guide and
they group their reviews by town, ethnicity of the food (Chinese,
Italian, Vietnamese, South American), type of food and cost.
Before I go out to eat, I see what the food critics say about
the restaurant so I won't be disappointed with my meal.
Do you read food critics' restaurant reviews before you go
to a new restaurant? If you do, do you believe the criticism
you read or do you try the food anyway? Come to the Hosted
