Back to school fashions change with the times but blue jeans or denims of all colors, with all their changing lines and styles, have remained a back to school fashion since the 1930's.

This year, jeans with low waistbands, called "hip huggers" because they hug the hips, are popular with young women. Wide pantlegs called "bell bottoms" because they look like the bottom of a bell, are also coming back into style for a second time since they first appeared in the 1960's and 70's.

The sweatshirt, a warm kind of sportswear is coming back in bright colors with styles that zip up the front like jackets.

Tight, wild-patterned nylon shirts are now popular with students, as well as black pants or shirts with Chinese embroidered borders and designs on the cuffs.
