IN ALL DIRECTIONS
We label the four directions on a compass North, South, East
and West.
To show the points between each of the four directions we
say Northeast for the area between north and east, Northwest
for the area between north and west, Southeast for the area
between south and east, and Southwest for the area between
south and west.
If we add the ending -ern to these compass point combinations,
we indicate the general area or region. For example,
I live in the northeastern region of the United States.
The southwestern states are very hot and dry during the summer.
