Drought
Drought
happens when there is not enough rain in an area and this
lack of rain causes water shortages and crop failures. Evaporation
is when water goes into the sky through the power of sunlight.
Transpiration is when water moves through the soil through
plants into the air. When evaporation and transpiration keep
happening and there is no rainfall, we get a drought.
The
way to pronounce "drought" is DR-OW-T. The "ou"
sound is like the "ow" in now.
Unlike the word "thought" which is pronounced "THOT"
and "brought" which is pronounced "BROT".
Drought sounds more like these words:
Pout - to make a sad face with the edges of your mouth going
down at both ends
Shout - to yell loudly
Spout - a pipe where water comes out
