Drought
Some
ways of explaining how to help drought conditions are:
We are trying to "relieve drought".
We want to "aid drought victims".
We need to "assist countries who need help".
We should try to "alleviate the problems caused by water
shortages".
The
words relieve, aid and assist are all words that mean "to
help". They can be used in other contexts of helping
out in emergency situations too.
- Our school collected money to assist the fire victims.
- I gave a donation to aid the victims of flooding in Central
America.
The word "alleviate" means to lessen the effects
of something like pain, drought, suffering, etc.
- You take aspirin to alleviate the pain of a headache.
