你第一次遇见他 / 她是什么时候
为什么你喜欢和他 / 她一起念书。
This is an interesting question. I could hardly forget my best friend and study mate—Helen. She is the same age as me and I first met her about two and a half years ago when I was a second-year student at the University. There are several reasons why I like to study with her. First of all, she has a real appetite for knowledge, so she is always looking out for opportunities to learn new things. Then again, she likes to share and discuss her knowledge with me, so this encourages me to learn more and to extend my own knowledge. Apart from that, she reflects on and reviews all the schoolwork very thoroughly and systematically and she likes to share her notes with me. So I think she is an ideal student—someone who has a very efficient method of learning—and I really get
inspiration from studying with her.
◎How often do you study together?
Well, since we are on the same course and have many assignments and tests, and since we enjoy each other's company, it makes sense to study together pretty often, oh, practically every day for a couple of hours.
◎Do you prefer to study independently or with somebody else?
I definitely prefer to study with someone else. Some people may say it is not easy to keep one's mind on the study material if you are not alone. It's true that some solitary study is essential, but I would say there are many advantages in studying with others. We can share what we have learned, we can help each other to resolve difficulties and we can share our inspiration. Furthermore, we can pool our different experiences and develop better learning methods with each other.
◎Apart from attending lectures, what are other forms of learning you have experienced?
Other forms of learning? Well, learning can take place in all sorts of ways. For myself, I use the Internet as an alternative form of learning. You can acquire an amazing amount of information and knowledge at any time you like on the Net. And then again I read books and magazines related to my major, and that helps develop my knowledge and enhance and broaden my skills. And then there's group learning or cooperative learning. That can be effective too; exchanging ideas and views face- to-face with my fellow students is an important source of learning for me. I have also heard about correspondence courses, but I've never tried any myself.
◎Do you enjoy these alternative forms of learning? Why?
Yeah, I enjoy these alternative forms a lot, since they mean I don't need to sit in a classroom listening to lectures all the time, good though some of the lectures are! In addition, I can choose the most efficient learning method for me in different times and situations and moods. Last but not least, with these alternative learning methods I can develop not only a more proactive learning attitude but also critical thinking.
