　　The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday offered tohelpChina with security at next years Olympic Games.

　　Hundreds of thousands of athletes, celebrities andstateofficials, as well as journalists and tourists, are expectedtodescend on the country next August for the Games.

　　There are tremendous issues of security as to who is enteringthecountry, what backgrounds they may have and whether theyintendviolence at the Olympic Games for any variety of reasons,ThomasFuentes, the assistant director of the FBIs OfficeofInternational Operations, told reporters.

　　This is a massive challenge for the authorities here in Chinatodeal with. Were offering every possible assistance to theminterms of information sharing or other technical assistance.

　　Fuentes was speaking in Beijing where he was attending aregulardialogue with Chinese counterparts to coordinate on lawenforcementissues ranging from cybercrime to human smuggling.

　　China has made much of relying on its own security forces fornextyears Olympics and believes it can deliver a secure Games forafraction of the $1.8 billion that Athens paid in 2004.

　　Liu Shaowu, head of the security department at theBeijingOrganizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), said inAprilorganizers had taken advice from the security chiefs of thelasttwo Summer Games on how to keep the 2008 Olympicssafe.（实习编辑：顾萍）

　　美国联邦调查局于本周三表示愿为明年的北京奥运会提供安全保障。

　　由于北京奥运的召开，我国将于明年八月迎来数以万计的运动员、社会名流、各国官员、记者及游客。

　　美国联邦调查局国际业务处副处长托马斯·富恩斯特在接受记者采访时说：“这会带来许许多多的安全问题，比如来中国的都是些什么人、他们的背景如何、他们是否会在奥运会期间因为各种原因制造暴力事件等。”

　　“这对中国的安全机关提出了巨大挑战。我们愿意为北京奥运提供信息共享及其它技术方面一切有可能的支持。”

　　富恩斯特此次来京是参加中美执法合作定期会议的，其主要议题包括网络犯罪和人口走私等。

　　中国已能充分依靠其自身的安全保障力量来为明年的奥运会保驾护航。2004年雅典奥运会在安全保障方面共花费18亿美元，而中国相信在明年奥运的安全保障方面只需花雅典奥运的一小部分。

　　北京奥组委安保部部长刘绍武表示，今年4月，北京奥运会主办方已听取了前两届夏季奥运会安保负责人有关如何保障2008年北京奥运会安全的建议。
