出生于冰岛雷克雅未克的一个音乐家庭的Bjork，自6岁即开始在当地音乐学校学习古典乐及长笛和钢琴。77年她11岁时在家乡发行了第一张同名专辑，随后她辗转于乐队间，直至加入地下乐队Sugarcubes，才在另类音乐中建立了不错的地位。之所以离开乐队作个人发展是因为Bjork觉得需要去创作一些在她脑海中浮现已久的音乐。也许是因为多年蕴藏的精华的爆发，她的首张全球发行的唱片《Debut》呈现了极其多样化面貌，融合了摇滚、流行、舞曲、布鲁斯、爵士、Funk甚至一些歌剧的感觉，还要加上她来自冰岛民谣的特殊背景。“Play Dead”中就夹杂了浓郁的冰岛民谣风味，加上雄壮的管弦音乐背景，气势非凡。
